5 Ways to Reduce Your Plastic Pollution TODAY

There are two types of people:

  1. Those who remember to bring their reusable bags.

  2. Those who curse the powers that be the moment they get to the register for the added charge of .10 per bag (or worse, if you’re in Target)

Whether you voted for it or not, your day-to-day has surely been affected by the plastic bag ban in California. We invited Roger Kube, former chair of Surfrider Foundation San Diego, to join us on Smarter San Diego this month to talk about it. Most of you already know that Surfrider Foundation is a global non-profit dedicated to protecting and enjoy our oceans, waves and beaches.

One of their many programs is Rise Above Plastics. We know that reducing your plastic usage can seem like a daunting task. We’ve simplified it into 5 ways you can reduce your plastic pollution today. Yes, you may have to break some habits but once you do, it’ll become second nature.

5 Ways to Reduce Your Plastic Pollution Today

1. Use reusable bags – every day, every time.

Always forget your reusable bags? The secret is keeping bags everywhere! In your car, near your door so you don’t forget them on your way out and even a small one in your purse.

We know that stocking up a bunch of bags can get a bit pricey so we want to mail you some absolutely free of charge. That’s right, just tell us where to send them! Visit our website to schedule your delivery now.

2. Buy a reusable mug/water bottle... and use it!

Reduce plastic waste and stay hydrated? We’re about that life. Personally, we love Hydroflasks. They really do keep your water ice cold for over 8 hours, no joke. They are awesome. Click the link below to get yours now.

3. Recycle

Do you have at least 2 waste baskets? Everyone should at least divide their trash into recycle and landfill. This one is easy.

4. Volunteer for a beach cleanup.

You're in luck – We are sponsoring a beach cleanup in March with Surfrider Foundation San Diego! By that time it’ll be perfect weather for the beach. Come hang out with us and clean our beaches at the same time

5. Limit your single use plastic as much as possible.

Consider whether you really need to bag those bananas...

Learn more about the plastic bag initiative from Roger Kube in the short 10 min segment of Smarter San Diego below and don't forget, we have a limited number of totally free, reusable bags to giveaway – just visit our website and tell us where to send them!
