Festive decor trends for 2018

The holiday season is upon us and that means it's time to uplift our homes in festive decor. While tradition brings feelings of warmth and comfort, sometimes holiday cheer ask for a fresh new update.

Luckily this season there are plenty of novel holiday decoration ideas to choose from, including some that are very budget friendly!

Read below for our top 5 favorite holiday decor trends for 2018:

1. Holiday Minimalism

Sometimes just a little says a lot! Minimalism isn't just a trend for home interiors, it has translated into holiday themes as well. You may even be able to execute this in the home with what you have.

2 tips: have a no-nonsense friend help you decorate/keep you in check, and secondly, put away any decor items in your home that you display all year round, giving your holiday flair all the attention.

2. All Natural

We can thank the sustainable DIY crowd for this one. There is a big push to move away from the consumerist culture of buying everything during the holidays and going green instead. We can find all of our holiday cheer outdoors with just a little bit of effort and creativity. Think: mantle garlands woven together out of berries and leaves you found outside your door and reclaimed wood placemats. Yes, it's easier to execute this if you live in the woods, but you will be pleasantly surprised at what city life will offer if you just look around and try to reuse/recycle!

3. Modern Color Palette

This trend is for the decor adventurers and those that like to push the boundaries of tradition-the rebels if you will! When red and green feel like the same old thing, it's time to explore other options in the color wheel. Thankfully there are plenty of innovative options right at our fingertips and design websites are showing us which combinations look best. There is something for everyone, from elegant powder blues to Instagram filter inspired hues.

4. Nostalgia & Vintage

If you're someone who loves to reminisce about the good ol' days and wish that you lived in your grandparents generation, this trend is for you. Everything nostalgia has been showing up in holiday decor, from vintage sleds to 1950's Christmas dolls. This trend is best presented mindfully and selectively as too much of this theme can begin to look more like a strange museum than a cozy home.

5. Wrapping Greenery

We love this trend as it takes typical present wrapping into something extra special. Instead of just wrapping paper, tape, and bows, think about adding a sweet little holiday wreath or a sprig of fresh rosemary. Your gift will look extra special and the recipient will surely be impressed with your creative thoughtfulness. It smells amazing too!
